Looking Beyond The Mirrored Glass

“Now we see a reflection in a mirror; then we will see face to face. Now I know partially, but then I will know completely in the same way that I have been completely known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12 CEB
I’ve always been fascinated with the concept of the Johari window. According to communicationtheory.org “The Johari window model is used to enhance the individual’s perception on others. Based on two ideas- trust can be acquired by revealing information about you to others and learning yourselves from their feedbacks.
Each person is represented by the Johari model through four quadrants or window panes. Each of the four window panes signify personal information, feelings, motivation and whether that information is known or unknown to oneself or others in four viewpoints.”
We are complex, multifaceted beings with so many ways in which we are known and unknown.
How many times are we left in complete darkness as sudden as a breaker trips, when certain situations and persons are revealed. How many times have you attempted to find something in the dark or look at yourself in a cloudy mirror; it takes even longer! Sometimes, the unknown variable is us - leaving our own selves shocked at what we are capable of doing.
Another part of our complexity is the longing to be free and to be loved, even if what that looks like is often misconstrued. David understood this freedom, Paul laid hold of it and preached it until his last breath. Freedom that comes with accepting the gift of grace whilst not taking it for granted.
To be known despite our imperfections, wrong turns, bad choices and rebellious actions or misguided allegiance yet still to be fully loved. A text I keep for introspection is Psalms 139:23-24 NLT “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”
There’s nothing we can hide from God. With Him we have freedom in authenticity. We can trust Him with all of us – the good and the bad bits. We can relish in the joy of salvation.
Greater than our desire for intimacy is God wanting to reveal Himself in His entirety to us.
Sin not only devastated our world it also tainted our image of God. He too wants to be fully known as we are known. He’s there beyond the veil, beyond this mirrored glass of sin knocking at our hearts’ door.
‘Intimacy with God is not something outside of us. It is God living within us.’ – Joanna Weaver.
It is paramount that we seek after a relationship with God for ourselves. May we like Job be able to say ‘I know that my Redeemer lives and that in the end He will stand on the earth...I, myself, will see Him with my own eyes – I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!’ Job 19:25, 27 NIV
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me unconditionally and intimately. Help me to get to know You and seek after Your face. Be a light to me in this dark, sin-stricken world and lead me to Your path eternal. In Jesus name, Amen.
Be blessed to be a blessing!
