“Praises and thanksgiving to the Lord who provides for my needs. He overloads me with His goodness, overwhelms me with His grace, My Defender, My Deliverer, the Source of my salvation. Psalm 68:19 (Personalized)
“Excuse me if I get undignified. You don’t know like I know what He has done for me.” – Dunsin Oyekan
Undignified is defined as “appearing foolish and unseemly; lacking in dignity.” Dictionary.com
King David is one of my favorite bible characters. At a young age, worship and a relationship with God were formalized and criticized. So reading the Psalms gave me much comfort and solace. David was vulnerable and at times overcome with emotion. He knew what God did for Him and even the weight of His crown could not stop Him from giving God uninhibited praise. It appeared foolish and unseemingly to his wife Michal, that David a King, should praise God with such abandon. (See 2 Samuel 6:14 to 22.) But to David, there was no one more worthy of praise than the King of Kings and Lord of Lords who kept him as a Shepherd boy, who helped him to slay the Giant Goliath, who anointed him and prepared a feast before his enemies.
May we learn what Uninhibited Praise means for us. Not so much about outward show, but our inward heart posture. To declare that God is worthy of it all and deserves our highest praise, not formalism. We are a people created to serve Him in spirit and in truth.
“Who will deny that true religion consists in great measure, in vigorous and lively actings of the inclination and will of the soul, or the fervent exercises of the heart? That religion, which God requires and will accept, does not consist in weak, dull, and lifeless wishes, raising us but a little above a state of indifference.” – Jonathan Edwards
“Praise should be the natural result of the awareness of the Source of the resource that you have.” – Myles Munroe
“Whenever we have to praise God, what do we do? We simply say what He is! ‘You are this and You are that.’ There is no other praise. We cannot fetch anything from anywhere else and bring it to God; the praises of God are simply the facts about Himself! If you want to praise the Lord Jesus Christ, tell people about Him.” – Charles Spurgeon
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You Lord for who You are! Blessings and glory and honor be unto Your matchless name. You continue to protect our comings and goings. You provide for our needs even when the outlook looks dire. Thank You for Your love, hope and mercy. Help me not to be silent, but to give You uninhibited praise, even if to others it may appear undignified. May my life be a life of praise. In Jesus name, Amen.
“Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise. The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to man that he should proclaim the Word of God through music.” - Martin Luther
“Praise turns the focus of our life from us to God.” – Myles Munroe
“Isn’t it a comfort to worship a God we cannot exaggerate?” – Francis Chan
“God inhabits the praises of His people.” – Psalm 22:3
“The number of my scars are the number of my victories – that’s why my praise can never be the same as yours.” – Dunsin Oyekan
Be blessed to be a blessing.
