The Overruling Hand of God

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when through the rivers, they won’t sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you won’t be scorched and the flame won’t burn you.” Isaiah 43:2 CEB

There’s something very surreal that occurs when we experience God’s protection firsthand instead of reading about it from the pages of scripture or history books or hearing about it from the lips of someone else. Today, I want to share my own firsthand account of the overruling hand of God.

Over the years, I’ve had some close encounters and brushes with death. This one, hit differently.

I was recently involved in a vehicular accident where my car flipped and skidded to a halt. At the moment of impact, it felt like I was about to be taken out but at the same time, a peace and a calmness enshrouded me as if God was saying “I got You.”

As I flipped and skidded, hearing the glass shattering and the metal grating and bending, I felt like I was being cradled. When it came to a halt, I was able to unbuckle the seatbelt and crawl out through my driver’s door; much to the surprise of the onlookers who stopped to assist.

Like David in Psalms 103:1-5, 20, I can sing:

“Praise the Lord, my soul, all my inmost being, praise His Holy Name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits-who forgives all your sins (Lord, I thank You) and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit (I praise Your Name! Mighty to save!) and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s….Praise the Lord, you His angels, you mighty ones who do His bidding, who obey His word. (Thank you my angel!)

Dear Heavenly Father, 

How can I say thanks for all the things You’ve done for me: the death threat of the enemy that was cancelled and made void; safety from serious injury and damage. How can I say thanks?!? Words fail me and I am grateful that the Holy Spirit can translate for me. Thank You Lord. I praise Your powerful and matchless Name. I give You ALL the praise! In Jesus Name, Amen.
