“I am peaceful knowing that You are in control. I am in awe of Your great power. I am thrilled knowing that there is nothing too hard for You”. Jeremiah 32:17 (Personalized)
Stop the clock!
One constant we have is the movement of time. It ticks on and on and on, running one day into the next, week into week, year after year. For not signs of aging or the growth spurts of those in younger generations, we would not often recognize just how much time has passed.
Time is like a mirror, an innocent bystander, watching how we live our lives. It has no favourites, it is unable to give more to one and not another, unless the Lord allows for a longer life. There are often persons in our lives that we think have gone too soon and they are a harsh reminder of the brevity of life. How often we wish we could pause time or even reverse it.
In Isaiah 38, King Hezekiah becomes ill to the point of death. The prophet Isaiah visits with him and advises him to put his house in order. Upon hearing this, he cries out to God to remember how devoted he was to Him. God hears his prayer and gives him a sign. He says He will make the shadow from the sun go back ten steps.
In Joshua 10, God caused the sun and moon to stand still during a battle to help Joshua completely defeat their enemies in battle.
These stories give me comfort and peace to know that the God who created everything as we know it is willing to intervene when needed in our lives. Do you know how many times, God has stopped the clock in your favour?
We have so much to thank God for each day as He protects and shields us from unknown variables. Even in moments of affliction, He is still there walking and guiding us through. We don’t have to own time nor rule it, the One who made us is in control of it.
Let us remember this as we hustle and bustle along life’s journey, the wise counsel of James the disciple in James 4:13 to 15NIV “Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
The best time we have is now and the best person to spend time with is God until time ceases to exist.
For He says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2
“For the present is the point at which time touches eternity.” - C S Lewis
“The key is not in spending time, but in investing it.” – Stephen R Covey
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being in control. You are powerful enough to stop the clock and to count the time. Help me to number the days I have and to live them well, patient and peaceful knowing that You will bring to pass all that is for me. In Jesus name, Amen.”
“The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.” - Leo Tolstoy
“Quiet minds cannot be perplexed or frightened but go on in fortune or misfortune at their own private pace, like a clock during a thunderstorm.” - Robert Louis Stevenson
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 NIV
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV
Be blessed to be a blessing.
