My Time

Where You Are - Illustration

I stop my ears to the noises around. I quiet my mind as well as my heart. My will is silent, my tastes and desires too. I am still. I am resting in God. My hope comes from Him alone. Psalm 62:5 (Personalized)

Quality time as a love language means prioritizing and enjoying focused, meaningful interactions where both partners are fully present and engaged, rather than just being in the same space.’ – AI Overview.

So far, we’ve looked at three of the five love languages as conceptualized by Dr. Gary Chapman which are Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service and Receiving Gifts. We are delving into these love languages as expressed by God. I hope you are being as blessed as I am realising the ways God has made us into “His own likeness”.

I seem to identify with all the love languages. What about you?

Whilst social media can keep us abreast and connected to what’s happening around us, it can also cause heightened levels of anxiety, depression and isolation. What may feel like quality time can often distract us from actual meaningful connection and conversation with those around us.

As an ambivert, I’m able to enjoy meaningful connection as well as moments of solitude. I still cast my mind sometimes to Covid where there was less hustle and bustle...

Does God have quality time as a love language? Let’s see if we can answer this question.

“Then have them make me a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.” Exodus 25:8, NIV

And if that wasn’t enough, “when the fullness of time had come, God sent His Son into the world (Galatians 4:4), becoming flesh to dwell among us (John 1:14). We call Him “Emmanuel, God with us.” (Matthew 1:23)

“Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” - Stephen Covey

Having meaningful conversations in safe environments is such a treasure to me. Spending time with friends and loved ones, with the little ones and watching them grow and develop are moments I treasure. I capture times spent together despite the objections, because when these moments pass there will never be enough memories left of days gone by. At the end of the day, I get to choose how I spend my time.

Jesus had meaningful interactions here on earth and left an indelible mark in the lives of others, even to this day! He enjoyed spending time with His disciples and with the people. His midnight meeting with Nicodemus bore fruit when Nicodemus openly asked for his body and joined the Christian faith. “For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet He did not sin.” Hebrews 4:15, NIV.

“Look! I have been standing at the door, and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him and he with Me.” Revelation 3:20, TLB

“It’s not easy to shut out the world, set aside a few minutes by yourself, and spend time in God’s Word and prayer. But it is essential if we are to grow in a relationship with God and be strengthened for the battles ahead. Don’t delay. Begin now to spend time alone with God everyday.” - Billy Graham.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the love language of quality time. Teach me to number my days and to enjoy the time I spend with You here on earth. You have promised that You are with us always, even until the end of this world. You are an ever-present help in trouble. Give me the understanding of Mary, to sit in the stillness and listen at Your feet. In Jesus name, Amen.

“To hear the whisper of God you must turn down the volume of the world. Find time to disconnect from everything around you and be still in His presence today. He is waiting for you to draw near.” – Unknown

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you...” James 4:8, NKJV

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11, NIV.

Be blessed to be a blessing.
