My Advocate

Where You Are - Illustration

God has promised that the oppressed are being set free; what has been stolen is being restored. He is My Advocate with those who attempt to be my adversaries and the Deliverer of my children. Isaiah 49:25 (Personalized)

Advocate can be defined as ‘a person who publicly supports or recommends a particular cause or policy’ or as ‘a person who pleads on the behalf of someone else.’

As I write, I remember one of many instances where Jesus showed up for me. Although it took what felt like many years, He didn’t just show up He showed out! When I relinquished control is when I was able to claim His peace. I felt like so much had been taken and years counted for naught, but He promised to restore. When I fully gave up is when I was able to trace His power and guiding hand.

I understand now why David in Psalm 18:1-3 TLB exclaims “Lord, how I love you! For you have done such tremendous things for me. The Lord is my fort where I can enter and be safe; no one can follow me in and slay me. He is a rugged mountain where I hide; He is my Savior, a rock where none can reach me, and a tower of safety. He is my shield. He is like the strong horn of a mighty fighting bull.  All I need to do is cry to him—oh, praise the Lord—and I am saved from all my enemies!"

Sometimes our story is wound up in our choices, and in the path God directs us. I love the quote from Brene Brown which says, “One day you will tell your story of how you overcame what you went through, and it will be someone else’s survival guide.” As we go through, we grow through, and we can plead on the behalf of others – even if it is just telling our story.

How many times when driving, do we challenge the GPS as to the best way to go even though we don’t always know where we are going? That’s the crippling effect of the spirit of legalism, it believes that it chooses the best course, but it’s not.  I’m happy that I was able to shake off that heavy limiting weight and choose God’s grace.

God has proven time and time again that He in this for the long haul. He wants a relationship with us and to show us His favour. His love is not empty or for outward show but freeing and liberating and life changing.

“My little children, I am telling you this so that you will stay away from sin. But if you sin, there is someone to plead for you before the Father. His name is Jesus Christ, the One who is all that is good and who pleases God completely.” 1 John 2:1 (TLB).

Thank You Lord for being my Advocate. As with David and Job, I leave my case in Your hands and not in man’s. Thank You for setting me free and setting my feet upon the high places. Keep me humble and true. Amen.

He is My Advocate.

What is He for you?

Be blessed to be a blessing!
