Love in Action

Where You Are - Illustration

The Lord is my Helper. I am depending directly on Him. He is handpicking those that will help me. He is my Defender. He is delivering me out of all my difficulties. He is waging war on my behalf. Psalm 118:7 (Personalized)

We continue to delve into the five (5) love languages or expressions of love – a concept developed by Dr. Gary Chapman. Last week, we looked at Words of Affirmation. This week, let’s explore Acts of Service. Whilst these “languages” refer to how people express and feel love, I wanted to look at how God expresses His love.

According to Ai Overview, Acts of Service as a love language, is “showing love through practical deeds rather than words.”

Words meet practical deeds in Romans 8:38-39, where Paul tells us that he is convinced that nothing could separate us from God’s love. Words spoken in Genesis 3:15 were made manifest in John 3:16 and John 1:14, when God “gave His only begotten Son…, ‘The Word became flesh and made His dwelling upon us….” John 15:13 says, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Love in action does not always require grand gestures. It can be seen in considerate, thoughtful actions formed from a desire to alleviate the affliction of another.

Some men understood this as they took their paralyzed friend to Jesus. Unable to get in because of the crowd, they made a slot and lowered the man right in front of Jesus. Because of their faith, the man was healed and restored; and their simple gesture is now etched in Bible history. (See Luke 5:17-26.)

By being willing to share his meal, the boy with the five loaves and two fishes witnessed a miracle as Jesus, our Jehovah Jireh, fed a multitude that day. (See Matthew 14:13-21). We may not always know where our small acts of love may lead; let’s do them anyway.

I love how the book of John ends, “Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.” John 21:25, NLT

“Faith in action is love, and love in action is service. By transforming that faith into living acts of love, we put ourselves in contact with God Himself, with Jesus our Lord.” - Mother Teresa

“Love is a verb. It’s an action requiring your involvement and your active participation. You cannot sit back and expect the world will serve it to you. You cannot expect that your relationship will continue to provide love while you’re not putting in any effort. Love has to be earned and must be continually fought for.” - Stephen Covey

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns!” Isaiah 52:7, NLT

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your love in action. We benefit from Your Acts of Service daily. Help us to also do our part to be beautiful messengers of peace, bring help and relief to those in need, and willingly carry those we love to the foot of Jesus. In Jesus name, Amen.

“This is real love – not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” 1 John 4:10, NLT

Be blessed to be a blessing.
