Can a mother forget the baby at her breast? Will she break those tender ties? She just might, but not God. He will always provide maternal regard, meticulous care, merciful love, and marvellous grace.
Isaiah 49:15 (Personalized)
Enormous pressure is placed on women to fulfill varying roles; one of which is motherhood. To carry a child is a beautiful blessing as well as a huge risk; both of which call for immense sacrifice. Mothers align with God’s creative plan to replenish and to reproduce. It is one of the highest callings given to humanity.
To show inexpressible love for another; to face an uncertain future whilst tackling the daily demands of irregular sleep, emotional rollercoasters, sickness, tears, upset stomach and the works!
To the joy and purpose in watching another human being grow from womb to baby to toddler to child to teenager to adulthood. Just imagine for a moment how God feels about us, His children.
Legacy can be defined as ‘the long-lasting impact of particular events, actions, etc. that took place in the past, or of a person’s life.’ There are many people who have helped to shape me into the person I am today and who I will always miss dearly.
I am reminded of my great aunt who raised my twin and I as though we were her very own and of one of my best friends Genny, who passed away last year leaving a huge void. She was such a lovely genuine soul survived by her daughters, son, and their families. I will miss her laughter and candid counsel the most.
‘Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift? the fruit of the womb His generous legacy?’ Psalm 127:3 MSG. As I reflected on this past Mother’s Day, my thoughts go to those who are reminded of their loss. To those who have had to lay to rest their mothers, a pain I am fearful to experience.
To those who have had to lay to rest their children, as no parent would want to. It also goes out to those whose relationships have suffered or ended due to neglect or abuse. In a sin-stricken world sometimes motherhood means more than giving birth; there are those who step up to care for others not of their own womb.
Know that God loves you immensely whichever category you may fall.
Today though, I reflect on my mother who gives of herself so tirelessly to others even though it is oftentimes met with thanklessness and ingratitude. She still gives anyway. Her generosity and well-being for others is one of her most treasured qualities.
Dear Lord, thank You for Mothers, thank You especially for mine. Within their hearts, you have crafted Your special touch of love and compassion, nurture, and grace. I pray that You will help them to know their sacrifice doesn’t go unnoticed.
Just as you highlighted the widow who returned a mite to the temple, I pray that You highlight the dedication that they place in those they care for in this world. Bless them Lord, all mothers whether by womb or by heart.
Help them and all of us to leave a legacy of love, Your love. May Your name be glorified always, In Jesus’ name. Amen.
To the world you may be one person; but to one person you may be the world. Dr Seuss
Be blessed to be a blessing!
