“God is transforming my situation. He is turning my sorrow to gladness, my illness to full health, my insecurity to self-worth. He is converting me from sinner to saint; my spirit of despair to hope; my poverty into prosperity. He is working for my good and His glory.” Isaiah 61:3 (Personalized)
Simply put, grace is ‘the umerited favor of God.’ – (see Dictionary.com)
Samson was chosen even before birth for a special purpose from God. He was dedicated to God from the womb. His mother and father were given strict guidelines on what to eat and drink. He was to be a Nazarite. A Judge who led Israel for twenty years. We know his story with Delilah, the wars he raged against the Philistines and his untimely demise. (Judges 13 to 16). However, Hebrews 11:32 to 34NIV says, “And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies...”. We may cancel out Samson, but God gave him grace to grow right there at the end.
One verse I have come to love over the years is 2 Corinthians 12:9NIV, ‘But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.’ God gives us grace to grow. It’s easy to look at biblical characters and judge their missteps, but we also need God’s grace. One of the lies of the devil is that we must walk this life alone and that God is a harsh, exacting judge.
What stands against our accuser? Righteousness by faith which can only be found in Christ Jesus. Grace is what was extended to the thief on the cross. Grace to grow was extended to Mary and to countless others, even today. Grace is met with our tears at the foot of the cross when we kneel in penitence and prayers.
I thank God for His grace, His mercy and His love. Experiential faith has taught me that He is for me not against me. He is willing to transform my situation. Nothing is impossible for Him. He is working for my good and for His glory. I have found grace to grow.
“I really do believe that God is love, one of deep affection and grace and forgiveness and inspiration.”- William P. Young
“How wonderful to know that Christianity is more than a padded pew or a dim cathedral, but that it is a real, living, daily experience which goes on from grace to grace.” - Jim Elliot
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the opportunities and for grace to grow. Help me to rely on You daily regardless of my circumstance. Thank You for Your love, care and mercy. As I number my days, help me to increase my faith in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
“Grow in the root of all grace, which is faith. Believe God’s promises more firmly than ever. Allow your faith to increase in its fullness, firmness and simplicity.” – Charles Spurgeon
“The perfection of Christian character depends wholly upon the grace and strength found alone in God.” – Ellen G. White
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen” - 2 Peter 3:18
Be blessed to be a blessing.
