Fearless

My Plans, God's Hands
 - Illustration

“The Lord is my light and my protection. I can see the path ahead, so I am remaining calm and confident. The Lord is my strength and my peace, I can feel His Presence, so I am remaining bold and fearless.” Psalm 27:1 (Personalized)

“What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”

One quote that has stayed with me is from Nelson Mandela. “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” This quote resonated with me, because oftentimes you must step out in faith even when you’re afraid.

Some words synonymous with fearless are bold, brave, intrepid and courageous.

Who comes to your mind as a fearless person? Mine is my late friend Gentilia. She faced uncertain and insurmountable odds with praise, gratitude and fearlessness. I will always remember how she kept her faith strong with her Daddy God even in the face of death. Courage wasn’t the absence of fear, but she triumphed over it.

We have many instances where persons in the Bible exhibited faith over fear. In 1 Samuel 17, David faced Goliath when King Saul and the Israelite soldiers cowered in fear. Like Daniel in the lion’s den (Daniel 6) or Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the burning furnace (Daniel 3), I believe experiential faith grew into fearlessness.

For David, hearing the name of God being disrespected by Goliath, made him face him. Daniel refused to change his custom of praying three times a day. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego stood tall when others bowed to the golden statue under threat of being burned alive. We often see these Bible characters being determined even in the face of certain death.

Overcoming fears afraid is just as important. Even though Nicodemus came to Jesus secretly in the night, he accompanied Joseph to take his body away for burial. Sometimes, like Peter, we may start out strong, but become overwhelmed when we take our eyes off Jesus. Even then Jesus is ready to stretch his hands out to rescue us. (Matthew 14:22-32)

With the love and dedication God shows for me, my hope is that no matter where I fall on the fear to faith spectrum, I will continue to walk in faithfulness and become fearless; not because of me, but because God is faithful, tried and true.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am Your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10, NIV

“Bravery does not mean fearless. When we are scared to do something but do it anyway that is the true meaning of being brave.” – Lauren Martin

“Let your life reflect the faith you have in God. Fear nothing and pray about everything. Be strong, trust God’s word, and trust the process.” – Germany Kent

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the reminder that I can be fearless. You’ve promised to be with me at every stage and even when I am afraid, I know I can still call on Your name. Thank You for reminding me that You do not give us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. Help me to walk faithful, not fearful. In Jesus name, Amen!

“Where faith is high fear is low.” – Matshona Dhliwayo

“The only way you’re going to reach places you’ve never gone is if you trust God’s direction to do things you’ve never done.” – Germany Kent

“You came near when I called you, and you said, “Do not fear.” Lamentations 3:57, NIV

“She is Fearless, because He is Faithful.”

Be blessed to be a blessing.
