Like You stilled the storm to a whisper and hushed the howling winds. Calm the tempest of my soul and speak peace to my restless mind. Psalm 107:29 Personalized
According to Ai Overview, “Bisons are known to face storms head-on, instinctively walking into them rather than trying to outrun or avoid them, a behaviour that contrasts with the more common strategy of cattle. Why they do it? By facing the storm head on, bison reduce the amount of time they spend exposed to the harsh conditions.”
I am fascinated by nature, and more so God’s imprint on His Creation. There’s a part of the Creator in all of us and just like the Bison faces the storm head on, Jesus faces the storm head on too. Mark 4:35 to 41, recounts the story of Jesus calming the storm. Verses 37, 38, ESV says “And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on the cushion...” The disciples feared that they would perish in the storm.
Although they remembered Jesus was in the boat with them – they forgot WHO was in the boat with them. Sometimes, we focus on our storms and allow them to that they distract us from the One who is Ruler and Victor over everything. Verse 39 says, “And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
After this event, Jesus restores a demon-possessed man. “And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit.” Mark 5:2, ESV. Verses 3 to 20 tells the story of a man, who could not be bound by chains, being liberated and set free. The God who calmed the sea was also able to bring peace to this man from the country of the Gerasenes. Immediately, Jesus brings peace to the storms both outside and within.
I remember when God spoke peace to my restless mind. It felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. Learning to abide and trust in His abiding peace has been a source of strength and comfort. Whatever storms you face, face them head-on and with Jesus.
“Difficulties and adversities viciously force all their might on us and cause us to fall apart, but they are necessary elements of individual growth and reveal our true potential. We have got to endure and overcome them and move forward. Never lose hope. Storms make people stronger and never last forever.” - Roy T. Bennett
“When trouble comes, focus on God’s ability to care for you.” - Charles Stanley
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for giving me the strength and courage to face the storms that come my way. Help me even in moments of despair to call upon Your name and to trust that You will hear and rescue me. Help me to wait on Your timing and Your Right hand. Where I cannot trace You, help me to trust You. In Jesus name, Amen.
“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” - Haruki Murakami
“When I am preoccupied with stormy thoughts and worries, I will fix my mind on the One who calms the storm.” - Rose Chandler Johnson
“Peace, be still.” - Jesus
Be blessed to be a blessing.
