Defying The Odds

Defying The Odds - Illustration

“I may be afflicted and oppressed, but I will overcome. I may be battered and bruised, but I will be brave. I may be cornered and confused, but I am staying connected. Defeat and death may seem imminent, but I will be resilient knowing that in Christ the victory is already won.” 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 Personalized

According to Ai Overview, Defying the odds means “succeeding or achieving something that seemed highly unlikely, impossible, or against all probability, often overcoming severe adversity, obstacles or skeptism.” It further goes on to say that “It signifies overcoming, beating, or prevailing against.”

Quite recently, a devotional Instagram reel was shared speaking about the Bumblebee. According to aerodynamics laws, the Bumblebee should not be able to fly due to its wings being too small for its body. Ai Overview states that the reality is scientists were baffled for years by their “brute force” flight mechanism even though it does not actually violate physics.

The part I love from the reel says, “When God says rise the laws of limitations have to adjust. You see the Bumblebee flies not because the math makes sense but because the design is divine. And maybe the reason that you still feel that stirring in your spirit that pulls towards something higher or that dream that refuses to die, is because you were not built to stay grounded. You were built to defy the odds. Not because you are strong and not because you are qualified but simply because God said so.” Galatians 1:10 ERV has been a text I’ve kept close when I need to be reminded of Who gives me my purpose. “Now do you think I am trying to make people accept me? No, God is the one I am trying to please. Am I trying to please people? If I wanted to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

On paper, we should not be where we are yet, by God’s grace and His will, He positions and orchestrates where we are to be. Ask Paul, the chief of sinners and persecutor of God’s people, who became one of the most influential leaders and missionaries of the early church. Or David, a shepherd boy, who slayed a Giant. Or Joseph, who rose from slave to Governor and saved His nation from famine. Or Esther, who approached a King unsummoned to save her people. Or the three Hebrew boys, who defied a King and walked about in the fire with the Son of God. Or the woman with the issue of blood, who in faith, sought healing by touching just the hem of Jesus’ garment.

“God is looking for people through whom He can do the impossible. What a pity that we plan only the things we can do by ourselves.” A. W. Tozer “Go where there is no path and leave a trail.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the reminder that in You all things are possible. We can live in our purpose because You are able to sustain us. Give us the strength to overcome and the fortitude to defy the odds, knowing that we can do all things through Your Son, Jesus. In His Name we pray, Amen.

“When the odds are stacked against you, break them down, deal one on one with each odd, you’ll have a better chance, eventually you’ll end up with an even slate.” Victoria Addino.
