A Peace of Mind

In every situation, no matter what the circumstances, I am expressing gratitude and continually giving thanks to God because this is what He requires.

'Attitude of gratitude' is a catchphrase used by many. At times it can feel dismissive and invalidating, especially when you're going through difficult moments but there is truth that our attitude in situations helps or hinders us.

"Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms—to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way." Viktor Frankl.

Over the years, this is one of many quotes that have stayed with me. I've thought about how essential it is to respond rather than to react. (Still working on it while I'm driving!)

How often do we think that our power lies in reacting and giving people a piece of our mind? We end up giving more than a piece, we also give them our peace of mind. It is more freeing to choose how we will respond than to let others choose for us when we react.

We can give God thanks in all things when we understand and believe that He is in control. When we release our grasp, that's when we experience God's peace.

It's when we can sleep in the boat of our storms, or in the midst of affliction refuse to ‘curse God and die’. It's where we turn everything over to God who promises to give us beauty for ashes, joy for mourning, gardens for graves (Isaiah 61:3)

Does it all happen at once? No. It takes time and constant lessons but God is a willing and patient Teacher. Take hold of His Peace today.

Thank You God for being my peace. I lay everything down at Your feet and lift my hands, heart and mind in praise to You. Gratefulness is flowing from my heart.
